Advanced Excel
Excel is my daily driver for reconciliations, payroll schedules, and compliance tracking — the backbone of my process-improvement work. Structure, live formulas, and tie-outs keep every schedule reliable through turnover.
The Workflow — How I Approach It
Build with structure
Inputs, calculations, and outputs separated — readable and auditable by anyone.
Use formulas for control
Live formulas instead of hard-coded numbers — no silent errors.
Tie out every schedule
Payroll schedules and compliance trackers checked against their source data.
Automate recurring builds
Turn monthly schedules into repeatable templates that survive the author.
My Operating View — The 2 Cents
Most spreadsheet errors aren’t formula bugs — they’re structural. My 2 cents: a schedule should be auditable by someone other than its author. When compliance tracking is built clean, it stops being a personal-knowledge problem and becomes a control.
What Worked & What Didn’t
What Worked
- Structured schedules that survived review and team turnover.
- Tie-outs that caught errors before they reached payroll or compliance.
What Didn’t
- Hard-coded numbers and copy-paste — silent, compounding errors.
- One-off files rebuilt from scratch every month — wasted time, more risk.
