Cross-Functional Collaboration

HR, Finance, Audit, and IT speak different languages. I work where they meet — gathering requirements from every side and translating business goals into people processes. Because I speak finance and HR fluently, my procedures were adopted across four departments.

The Workflow — How I Approach It

1

Gather requirements from every side

Finance, HR, Audit, and IT each get a voice before the process is designed.

2

Translate each language

Show every team what the change means in their terms — cost, risk, control, or system.

3

Build a shared process

One standard across departments — not four versions of the truth.

4

Adopt through stakeholders

Socialize before rollout — built with the users, not imposed on them.

5

Measure the friction removed

The process must be easier to follow, not just new.

My Operating View — The 2 Cents

Business outcomes are delivered through people — and people processes cross departments. My 2 cents: don’t wait to be handed requirements; gather them. The rare skill is speaking both finance and HR fluently — that’s what turns four departments into one shared process instead of four competing ones.

What Worked & What Didn’t

What Worked

  • Operating procedures adopted across Finance, HR, Audit, and IT.
  • Translating goals into processes each team could see the value in.

What Didn’t

  • Imposing process without buy-in — rejected before it started.
  • Working in silos — each team solving the same problem four times.
